Seasonal Banner

Introduction

In the present scenario, it has been observed that schizophrenia form psychoses is being increasing caused because of the use of cannabis in adolescence and young adulthood. Many studies have been conducted that have revealed the fact that there is reasonable evidence regarding the current issue of regular cannabis use with which risk of schizophrenia is increasing at a fast pace along with occurrence of psychotic symptoms. Also, it has been found that there is a contributory causal relationship in between the use of cannabis and psychotic disorders which state to the disturbances occur in human body when dopamine neurotransmitter system interacts with cannabinoid system (The Effect of Marijuana Use on the Risk for Schizophrenia, 2012). In the present report, a study will be made on assessing the risk of cannabis use on development of Schizophrenia so that the threat of occurrence of same can be reduced.

Background

In today’s era, with increase in health issues, one of the common issues that have been found is that regular cannabis use and psychotic disorders like schizophrenia are occurring in the general population at a fast rate. It has been seen that in various developed countries, there is rise in the rates of cannabis use among young people. Many debates have taken place that with respect to cannabis use which has proved that it is a highly contributory cause of psychosis that may precipitate schizophrenia in vulnerable individuals. However, it is assumed that that cannabis use is not the only factor behind causing same as along with many others including genetic predisposition and other unknown causes, the main disease take place, that is, schizophrenia (Jonsson, Birgisdottir &Sigurdsson, 2014).

Rationale of Study

Schizophrenia is long term mental disorder which is a kind of breakdown with respect to the emotion, behaviour and thought. This disease results in faulty perception as well as inappropriate actions and feelings that an individual feels from the reality and personal relationships in a way of either fantasy or delusion. It can be said that in this disease, there is a sense of mental fragmentation in individuals suffering with the same. However, among various reasons behind the same, regular cannabis use has been found to be the most common cause (Yücel & et.al., 2012). Therefore, in the present study, risk of cannabis use on development of Schizophrenia will be assessed so as to find suitable ways in order to cure the same.

Aim and Objectives

Aim

To assess the risk of cannabis use on the development of Schizophrenia

Objectives

  1. To understand the concept of cannabis and schizophrenia
  2. To identify the relation between use of cannabis and schizophrenia
  3. To recommend different ways of curing development of Schizophrenia

Research Question

  1. What is the concept of cannabis and schizophrenia?
  2. How use of cannabis and schizophrenia are interrelated with each other?
  3. What are the different ways of curing Schizophrenia?

Significance

This research would prove to be very beneficial for the doctors and Ph.D. scholars in building and maintaining real connections with social conversation. The researchers who would be conducting their study on the same topic will be able to assess the risk of cannabis use on development of Schizophrenia as well as ways of reducing the threat of same. With the help of this study, people in developed countries where this issue of increasing at a fast rate can be made aware with the side effects of regular use of cannabis. Also, doctors will be able to find the ways by which this risk can be reduced by using appropriate ways.

Literature Review

According to Jonsson, Birgisdottir &Sigurdsson, (2014) cannabis can be termed as the preparation of Cannabis plan that is majorly used for making the use of psychoactive drug or medicine. The worm cannabis is derived from the cannabis plant cannabis sativa. It is mainly found in tropical and temperate areas of the world. The main aspect regarding same is that the main active ingredient in cannabis is called delta-9 tetrahydro-cannabinol which is in common termed as THC. It is mainly helpful in relieving severe pain, nausea, and other chronic conditions however, its regular use may lead to issues related to mental disorders. In the words of Yücel et.al. (2012) schizophrenia is a chronic brain disorder with which about one percent of the total population is suffering. At the time when schizophrenia is active, person generally feels symptoms like delusions, lack of motivation, hallucinations as well as trouble with thinking and concentration. It has been seen that use of cannabis put a high risk of development of schizophrenia in individuals consuming the same on regular basis.

As per the views of Large & et.al. (2011) over the past 30 years, the evidence has been gained by the medical professionals that use of cannabis lead to the risk for psychosis which ultimately results in schizophrenia in most of the cases. It has been clear by many tests conducted by doctors that there is a strong link in between cannabis use and psychosis. In accordance with the systematic search where there have been yielded 14 cohort studies carried out in 9 cohorts and 9 case-control studies. While accumulating the results of these studies, the major outcome gained is that they unambiguously support the fact that cannabis use is an independent risk factor behind occurrence of psychosis that may ultimately lead to chronic psychotic disorders like schizophrenia. However, Casadio & et.al. (2011) says that with increase in the use of cannabis, there is high risk of development of schizophrenia. In addition to this, in adolescence, risk of developing psychosis is high in comparison to the use of cannabis in adulthood. It can be said that psychotic disorders take years to evolve as well as they remain for a long period of time. Therefore, it is necessary to enhance public knowledge regarding the possible consequences of using cannabis on regular basis as nobody knows that the use of same will affect the individuals in which way, that is, whether in the form of transient psychosis or in chronic psychotic disorder. However, they both are dangerous for a person to lead a normal life.

Sampling

Here, the simple random sampling technique will be used where the research universe will be medical professionals in the UK where sample size of 20 will be selected. Under the same, respondents will be chosen on random basis where everyone would be having equal chances to get selected in the sample size (Glesne, 2015).
